Muller Catoir boasts a winemaking history that stretches back to 1744 and is now in the 9th generation of family-run operation. Located in Pfalz’s Mittelhaardt region, the estate is organic certified and is fortunate to have vineyards that grow on a variety of soil types. All of the work in the vineyards and cellar is carried out by hand and fermentations are allowed to progress slowly. Lean, elegant, and surprisingly powerful, this wine is remarkably balanced and offers a complex bouquet of peach and apple, supplemented by honeysuckle and wet stones. Succulent on the palate, this wine offers a really delightful and fun interplay between the fruit notes of key lime and passion fruit, the acidity, and the underlying minerality and salinity. Just the slightest bit of sweetness gives the fruit a little extra richness and presence on the palate but doesn’t leave you feeling like you’ve just tasted something sweet. This might be the ultimate fish taco wine but we’re pairing it with an indulgent blue cheese from Germany for a smashingly delicious pairing.
